Brazilian Nutrigenomics Network
The development of Nutrigenomics, a multidisciplinary scientific field, depends on the integrated action of Academy, Government and Industry. Professional expertise on nutrition, food science, pathology, toxicology, biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics is fundamental.
On a global level, several networks are conducting research on nutrigenomics. One example is Nugo – The European Nutrigenomics Organization that comprise 22 organizations from 10 countries. The NCMHD Center of Excellence for Nutritional genomics (UCDAVIS) and Nutrigenomics New Zealand are also important references in the field.
The Aims of the Brazilian Nutrigenomics Network are:
1. To evaluate the impact of genotype on nutrition and health interaction.
2. To contribute to elucidate molecular mechanisms of nutrients and food bioactive compounds on health and disease.
3. To stimulate research with food directed to Brazilian population genetic variation.
4. To develop and apply biomarkers of exposure, bioavailability, function and risk of nutrients and food bioactive compounds.
5. To create a data bank on Nutrigenomics studies conducted with the Brazilian population.
Other aims:
1. To stimulate scientific cooperation among Brazilian researchers.
2. To establish international alliances with researchers and groups with expertise in genomics, nutrition and human health.
3. To divulge educational material on Nutrigenomics.
4. To divulge national and international meetings on Nutrigenomics.
Researchers on Nutrigenomics or related fields are invited to integrate the NETWORK by registering through the “restricted registration area” link. In this reserved area, everyone is invited to send articles, comments and information on meetings of Nutrigenomics (contato@nutrigenomicabrasil.org).
Scientific advisor to the NETWORK: Dr. Jim Kaput Laboratory of Nutrigenomic Medicine, Department of Surgery University of Illinois Chicago, Chicago, IL; Center of Excellence in Nutritional Genomics, University of California at Davis
